Baba Ji with Meian: A Journey of Spiritual Power

Written by Nirvail Singh

The Witness of the Sewadars

In August 1978, shortly after Baba Ji passed away, Baba Daler Singh Ji, Hardev Singh Dhapoi, Amba, and I were doing sewa at Baba Ji’s kutia. We were leveling the front area so the Sangat would have space to sit. We noticed Meian sitting on the west side under the veranda, preaching to his followers.

Initially, we were suspicious of him and did not want him to take over Baba Ji’s place. We decided to test him by asking a question about a pre-existing issue with my job, planning to ask him to leave if he failed. When I approached Meian, he invited us all to sit. It was then that he shared his incredible personal experiences with Baba Faquir Chand Ji, which I have documented in his own words.

The Background of Meian

Meian, a Muslim peer from Mukerian (District Pathankot), admitted that he used to compete with other holy people to build his own name and property. During a visit to Qadian for a religious ceremony, he inquired if there were any other holy men in the area, wanting to show off his own power. The local community told him about Baba Faqir Chand Ji, whom they believed knew the “Jadu of Bangal” (the miracles of Bengal). Meian decided to visit Dhakoana specifically to scare Baba Ji with his own spiritual tricks.

The Failed Trick and the Lesson

When Meian arrived, Baba Ji was simply cutting grass with a rambba (cutter) for his cows. Baba Ji invited him to help, and they spent the hot summer day working together until their clothes were wet with sweat. After sharing a meal of chapatis, they sat in the Mandir to rest. While Baba Ji meditated, Meian began to increase his body size until he almost touched the ceiling to show his power.

In his pride, Meian hit Baba Ji’s dog with a stick when it sat near him. Baba Ji opened his eyes and rebuked him sternly: “You beat my dog? You also have a dog (ego/anger) in your body; what should I do to you?” Baba Ji told him he was unqualified to sit in a sacred place and challenged him to find him through closed eyes. Meian saw nothing but darkness. Humbled, Meian realized Baba Ji was a master of the Almighty and promised never to perform such “cheap” tricks again.

The Miraculous Visit to Mecca

Meian later requested Baba Ji to show him the sacred Mecca. After a few days of testing his persistence, Baba Ji arrived at Meian’s door at 10:00 PM. Following Baba Ji’s instructions, Meian covered his eyes with a red dupatta, climbed onto Baba Ji’s back, and gripped his arms tightly. In just 15 minutes, they traveled across the world. When Meian opened his eyes at 10:15 PM, the holy Kaaba was right in front of him.

After performing his prayers (Sajda), Meian asked to see Medina as well. Within minutes, Baba Ji transported him there. By 3:00 PM (local time), Baba Ji said it was time to return to reach Qadian before 4:00 AM. They returned the same way, and exactly 16 minutes later, Meian was back outside his room in Qadian. Baba Ji disappeared instantly as Meian stepped inside.

“I have trust in Baba Faqir Chand Ji. I have decided to visit Dhakoana every year to seek blessings.” — Meian

The Vow of Silence

The next day, when Meian visited Baba Ji, the Master was resting as usual under the mango tree. Baba Ji remained humble and stern, warning Meian never to tell this story to anyone during his lifetime. Meian kept that promise until Baba Ji passed away in 1978, at which point he shared it with the sewadars to ensure the world knew of Baba Ji’s true spiritual reach.
